West Chester University’s (WCU) College of Health Sciences is partnering with Chester County Hospital to provide a free, Hands-Only CPR course to the community this Saturday, Oct. 11, from 10-11:30 AM at Sturzebecker Health Sciences Center (855 South New Street, West Chester).
The free training includes instruction on how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED) and education on Early Heart Attack Care (EHAC). It is open to the public as well as the campus community.
By learning Hands-Only CPR and how to use an AED, individuals can reduce hesitation and increase confidence in life-saving situations. Hands-Only CPR teaches people to do compressions without rescue breathing. This means you are no longer required to breathe for a victim, just use your hands to keep their heart pumping.
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is the best way to keep someone alive when they experience cardiac arrest, which is when a person’s heart stops beating. Most of the time, when someone experiences a cardiac arrest, it is in their home. Cardiac arrest can strike anyone at any time, and most of the time, it is fatal. It is different from a heart attack, in which a person’s heart may continue to beat when a section of the heart muscle loses blood supply.
Note: This is not a certification course.
Participants can enjoy a free boxed lunch at the conclusion of the training.
To register, call 610-738-2300.
The program is brought to campus by Chester County Hospital and the Mobile CPR Project Philadelphia.
