ABC World News Tonight: Sun Valley Football Players Honor Teachers with Their Jerseys

Sun Valley High School football seniors presented their jerseys to their favorite teachers in a gesture highlighted on ABC's World News Tonight.

A gesture of teacher appreciation by Sun Valley High  football seniors in Aston was featured as part of the America Strong segment on ABC’s World News Tonight, reports the digital staff at 6abc.

The players surprised their teachers, who helped shape their lives, by giving them their jerseys ahead of homecoming.

Wide receiver Kaden Mortimer surprised his English teacher, Julie Malone.

“I  would be honored to wear your jersey, Kaden,” Malone said.

Defensive lineman JP Griswold presented his shirt in class to Mr. Passan.

“Giving my jersey for homecoming to a teacher who’s impacted me throughout my high school career,” Griswold told his teacher and coach.

The students also thanked their teachers in the World News Tonight segment.

 “She’s been my mentor for the past four years. I always look forward to going to my class,” said Rider Strickland.

The teachers receiving the jerseys say they’re grateful to know they’ve made a difference in their students’ lives.

“To me, getting Steven’s jersey meant the world to me. It’s reassuring to know that I can be there for someone whenever they need it,” said teacher Mr. Lopez.
