Sun Valley Grad, Rolling Green Instructor Makes It to PGA Championship

Sun Valley grad Braden Shattuck, a golf instructor at Rolling Green Golf Club in Springfield, will be heading with 19 others to the PGA Championship in two weeks, according to the Associated Press, as reported in the Daily Times.

Pennsylvania club pro Shattuck was the All-Delco Golfer of the Year in 2011. He got into the championship after winning by one shot over Matt Cahill and Michael Block at Twin Warriors Golf Club.

The championship runs May 18-21 at Oak Hill in Pittsford, New York.

Shattuck suffered a back injury four years ago following a car accident and considers himself fortunate that he can be playing golf. 

He had taken a few years off from the game, and changed his swing and equipment, compensating for the injuries.

“I came into the week hoping I’d made the cut,” Shattuck said. “I didn’t know what to expect. To walk away with the trophy and a spot in a major, I’m really fortunate.”

Shattuck took the lead with an 18-foot birdie putt on the 16th hole but missed a 4-foot birdie putt on the 17th hole.

But he made it to finish at 9-under 279,
