Philadelphia Airport Gearing Up for 2026 Influx of Passengers

When crowds fly into Philadelphia in 2026, their first impression of the region will be at Philadelphia International Airport, and the airport is getting ready, reports Nikki Dementri for CBS News Philadelphia.

People from around the nation and the world are coming here for March Madness at the end of March, for the FIFA World Cup in June and July, for the 250th anniversary of our nation, and they’re coming for the MLB All-Star Game.

PHL is planning some improvements.

The airport now serves about 30,000 passengers a day.

“So we’re ready, but we are readying ourselves even more for the increase in the passengers,” said Leah Douglas, director of Guest Experience at PHL

Teams are repainting the terminals, replacing floors and ceilings, creating new restrooms and spaces, including lactation suites.

“It’s like having friends over to your house, right? You want everything to be spic and span, and that’s what we’re doing here,” Douglas said.

Flights to Milan and Edinburgh have already been added. In December, Santo Domingo will be added as well, through Aeromexico, the airport’s newest airline.

A new customer care team will help guide and answer questions for English- and Spanish-speaking passengers.
