Delaware County colleges and universities once again made the cut on a new 2026 ranking of the nation’s top colleges from U.S. News & World Report.
Nationally, Villanova University in Radnor is the only school located in Delaware County that cracked the top 100 overall. It came in at No. 57. It also ranked 60th in Best Value Schools, and 22nd in Nursing,
A separate national category for liberal arts colleges put Swarthmore College in the 4th spot. It was also ranked No. 4 in Best Value Schools,14th in Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs, and 21st in Most Innovative Schools and Top Performers on Social Mobility.
Haverford College in Haverford Township ranked 24th for National Liberal Arts Colleges. It also ranked 24th in Best Value Schools, 12th in Best Undergraduate Teaching.
When ranked within Pennsylvania, Villanova University placed 4th in the state. Widener University in Chester came in 20th in Pennsylvania, ranking 301st nationally. Swarthmore College placed 25th in the state while Haverford College came in at 26th. Cheyney University just made it into the top 100 list for Pennsylvania, ranking at 100. It was also listed 37th nationally among Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
