When Delaware County resident Joani Reisen lost her health insurance coverage for a critical medication she needed, she appealed using a new AI platform that made the appeal work much easier, writes Joshua Sidorowicz for CBS News Philadelphia.
Reisen had been using Concerta, which treats attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, for more than a decade to help her focus.
Independence Blue Cross described her medication as “experimental” and wanted her to use a generic drug instead.
“It just doesn’t work. It made us fall asleep out of nowhere,” she said.
Reisen turned to Counterforce Health, a free AI platform that generates customized appeal letters.
“The average person would have to take eight to 10 hours and go parse through hundreds of medical journals, parse through databases and do a lot of manual research, labor and writing,” said Counterforce Health founder and chairman Neal Shah said. “The AI system can do this in less than two minutes.”
Reisen ended up with an 11-page letter stating why the drug wasn’t experimental and won her appeal.
IBX stated her medication coverage was dropped because of an oversight regarding her diagnosis. It was reinstated once the oversight was corrected.
