Barry C. Dozor a retired Delaware County judge, longtime attorney, and a former Marple Commissioner from 1984 to 2002, died Aug. 23 at his Garnet Valley home. He was 76.
Serving as a judge for 23 years, the Havertown native and long-time Broomall resident handled thousands of civil, criminal and family division cases for the Delaware County Court of Common Pleas, writes Gary Miles for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Barry C. Dozor was formerly an attorney at Dozer & Auslander in Collingdale. He also served as a legal consultant, mediator, mentor, and volunteer.
Judge Dozer was appointed to the bench in 2001 by Gov. Tom Ridge and was elected to his first full 10-year term in 2003. He was re-elected in 2013 and 2023, and retired in March 2025.
“He could look beyond the surface of a case and see background and context,” said his son Josh.
Fellow attorneys considered him “genuine” and “a model judge.
He presided over Pennsylvania’s coordinated opioid litigation and the Chester Upland School District receivership.
Judge Dozer served as senior judge for a time and was also an administrative liaison for the civil and family division of the Delaware County court.
