With stories almost daily about Wawa opening yet another store in yet another state, it seems like it should win the title for fastest-growing retailer in the nation.
In fact, Wawa did place on the top 25 list of the National Retail Federation’s “2025 Hot 25 Retailers,” but it didn’t come in at number one.
Try 23rd, writes Danielle Romano for CS News.
The rankings are based on increases in domestic sales between 2023 and 2024.
“Acquisitions and expansions led to sales growth for many of this year’s retailers, while several international businesses on the list continued to increase their presence in the United States.” said NRF Chief Economist and Executive Director of Research Mark Mathews.
So who beat out Wawa?
Shell came in at No. 4 with a 26.8 percent increase in U.S. sales growth.
QuikTrip Corporation took No. 9, with a 10.9 percent increase in U.S. sales.
The gas station chain ampm came in at No. 17 with an 8.8 percent increase in U.S. sales.
Then there’s Wawa Inc., ranking at No. 23. It saw a U.S sales growth of 7.9 percent.
For the record, Shell, QuikTrip, ampm, and Wawa are all new to the list this year.
