As the Wawa brand expands into other states, like at this proposed store in Kentucky, it will have to compete with already established convenience store chains.

Wawa is one of several retailers nationwide who are on an expansion kick because they know how to deliver convenience, writes Lanie Beck for RE Journals.

The Delaware County firm made the top 100 list nationally in tenant expansion trends, according to Northmarq.

Long-term, Wawa and Sheetz are looking to expand by more than 1,000 stores.

A 6,000-square-foot Wawa in northern York County is planned in central Pennsylvania, the first of 40, according to Sue Gleiter with Penn Live.

Its opening its first Alabama location in Fairhope April 25, writes Katy O’Hara for allrecipes. Two more Alabama Wawas are set to open this summer.

Two Wawas are opening in Georgia for the first time, with more stores in Ohio, Kentucky, and North Carolina.

The expansion comes during Wawa’s 60th anniversary, writes Ariana -Perez-Castells for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

“Since our first store opened its doors 60 years ago, it’s been an honor serving our communities with trusted quality products and convenience to most importantly offering comfort and camaraderie to local friends and neighbors,” said Chris Gheysens, Wawa’s CEO in a statement.

The Wawa target is 100 new stores each year, with 2,000 stores by 2030, Gheysens said.
