Mare of Easttown creator Brad Ingelsby and HBO are returning to regional crime drama with “Task,” set to debut on Sky Atlantic and Now TV in September, writes Josh Rosenberg for Esquire.
Happily, it has even more Delco slang, this time uttered by the likes of Mark Ruffalo.
Ruffalo plays an FBI agent named Tom who leads a new task force to track down masked robbers who are committing violent home invasions in the area.
The parts of the task force members are played by Fabien Frankel, Alison Oliver, and Thuso Mbedu, who are searching for the leader of the robberies, played by Tom Pelphrey.
“I play a young detective with the most Philly slang out of everyone, because I’m from South Philly,” Frankel told Esquire US last July. “I talk about Angelo’s broccoli rabe. I’m doing a Wawa run every day. I mean, I’m right in the thick of all the Philly references.”
The first preview for “Task” has a True Detective feel to it, though under Ingelsby’s influence, it’s doubtful that the manhunt plot will be so cut-and-dry.
The exact date for “Task” hasn’t been released
