A Glen Mills bake sale that raises money for the Ronald McDonald House is still going strong every year since it started in 2018, writes Madeleine Wright for CBS Philadelphia.
The Kids 4 Kids bake stand, at the corner of Ponds View Drive and Willits Way, is manned by a group of children who stand behind a table selling cupcakes, cookies, and cake pops.
The Kids 4 Kids stand was thought up by Glen Mills mom Brianne Krysiak in memory of her son, Gordon, who was stillborn at 19 weeks. This month, Gordie would have turned 10.
“It’s a great excuse to help others and just see something positive out of something that was tragic,” Brianne said.
The bake sale runs for three days every August. Neighborhood children, including Krysiak’s five children, led by her 11-year-old son Bennett, participate, selling baked goods to drivers and passersby from 11 AM to noon.
The baked goods are homemade or donated by local bakeries.
All proceeds go to the Ronald McDonald House of Greater Delaware.
Last year, Kids 4 Kids raised $3,000.
“It’s very heartwarming,” Brianne said. “Some years, you’re just blown away by how many people show up. It’s special.”
