John Robert Cellars, an urban winery in Tinicum Township, has expanded its Delaware County footprint with a new location in Media, writes Lisa Dukart for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Co-owners John Irving and Robert Goodwin opened the new tasting room on the ground floor of the Phoenix Building on Aug. 8. The longtime friends hope the space will attract Media’s foot traffic, particularly during popular seasonal events like Dining Under the Stars.
In addition to signature wines from John Robert Cellars, the tasting room serves beer from Sterling Pig Brewery and a variety of Pennsylvania-made liquors.
The site will offer a selection of shareable plates. The still-developing menu currently features a cheese and charcuterie board, shrimp tempura, smoked duck breast pancake, chicken wings, fries, and several flatbread pizza options.
Tasting flights are served on Sundays.
The owners hope their unique urban winery experience, unlike the typical suburban and rural wineries in the region, will entice wine enthusiasts to explore and enjoy the space.
“We’re not the typical place where you can go and sit down in the vineyard and drink wine, but you can come and visit our winemaking facility for a little different type of experience,” said Irving.
