Chalk artists from all over the country brought their talents to the pavement outside Subaru Park in Chester this past weekend for the first-ever Delco Chalk Festival, writes Trish Hartman for 6abc.
Artist Nicole Kleinman from West Jordan, Utah, created a lifelike chalk portrait of Anna from “Frozen,” built in several layers while using her fingers to add detail.
A variety of artwork was featured, from Philly pop culture icons like Gritty and Saquon Barkley, to works inspired by the Pennsylvania Dutch and Harry Potter.
“We made it a festive, family-friendly environment, and we clearly had families from all over the region coming out to enjoy themselves,” said Rob MacPherson, Executive Vice President of Visit Delco.
Erik Greenawalt, known as “The Chalking Dad” from Irwin, presented a chalk rendering of a Super Bowl ring.
“A lot of art hangs in museums and people never get to see it,” Greenawalt said. “Here’s an opportunity for folks to come and interact with it. And watch it be created over the last day.”
For those so inspired, blank spaces and chalk were available.
Visit Delco hopes to bring back the festival next year.
