The first Asian-owned art gallery in Delaware County, Saliim Projects, has opened in Newtown Square, writes Melissa Jacobs for Main Line Tonight.

It is a dream fulfilled for Daye Kim.

Kim, a wife and mother of two with a background in art curation, was always checking vacant buildings, envisioning an art gallery.

“I love being a mom and wife,” Kim said. “But I always dreamed about opening my art gallery.”

Kim, who was born in Korea, has worked at art galleries in New York’s Upper East Side and in Chelsea.

She moved to West Chester with her family in 2019 and traveled daily up and down West Chester Pike.

Then one day, she saw the vacant space at 3715 West Chester Pike off Newtown Street Road.

“That was the right space,” Kim says. “I just knew that was the place.”

Saliim Projects inaugural exhibition, featuring Korean female artists, is open and runs through April 2.

Kim emphasized she doesn’t want Saliim Projects to be known as an Asian art gallery, despite her background.

“I’m proud of my heritage, but this will be a gallery for all artists and everyone who loves art,” she said.
