Physicians formerly working at Delaware County Memorial Hospital (DCMH) have provided grants to support ChesPenn Health Services in Upper Darby and the Share Food Program’s centralized food bank in Delaware County.
Each $10,000 grant is made possible from funds the physicians established with their charitable contributions, now held at The Foundation for Delaware County.
“We are honored to contribute to these high-quality nonprofits serving so many of our patients and former patients in the DCMH catchment area,” said Rhonda Cornell, DPM, a podiatrist in Havertown. “We know that both organizations and our community are strained now and will benefit from our charitable support. Even with the devastating impact the closure of our hospital had on all of us, we want to show our patients in the community that we are still here and care about them.”
Share Food Program Executive Director George Matysik shared these words of appreciation.
“Our work fighting hunger has never been more important—and challenging—than right now. We truly can’t thank the DCMH Physicians and The Foundation for Delaware County enough for their crucial support and for believing what we at Share Food Program believe: every single individual in Delaware County deserves safe, reliable access to good food. Because of generous grants like this, we can make sure fewer families need to worry about where their next meals will come from.”
ChesPenn Health Services, Delaware County’s Federally Qualified Health Center with sites in Chester and Upper Darby, is struggling to meet the challenges posed by the closure of Prospect Crozer.
“We are deeply grateful for this generous gift. The DCMH physicians’ fund will assist our vulnerable patients with access to critical labs, screenings, and diagnostic services. By providing this testing, we strive to better support healthier patients and communities,” said ChesPenn Services Executive Director Susan Harris McGovern.
