Retired Delaware County Common Pleas Judge Barry Dozer died unexpectedly over the weekend, shocking those who knew and worked with him, writes Alex Rose for the Daily Times.
Dozer had a 23-year career on the Delaware County bench until he retired earlier this year at the age of 75.
In a Daily Times interview around his retirement, Dozer said he was grateful for the longevity of his career in law and was looking forward to working as a mediator.
“It’s been a fabulous career,” Dozor said at the time. “It’s been a lifetime gift and I’ve been very fortunate to have had the opportunity of practicing law in Delaware County, as well as being on a remarkable bench. I work with just fabulous, talented, sincere, and conscientious judges.
Former Springfield Commissioner Michael Puppio, who ran on the same ticket with Dozer in 2003, described him as a man who cared about his community, investing 100 percent.
Attorney Robert Keller said Dozer was a real “lawyer’s judge” who treated everyone fairly.
“Sometimes when judges put those robes on, they forget where they came from, but he never forgot that,” Keller said. “He remembered his blue-collar Collingdale start, and that’s how he was as a judge.”
