Upper Darby Native Tina Fey Is Producing a New Movie

Upper Darby native Tina Fey is producing a new film with Marc Platt.

Upper Darby native Tina Fey is always on the move. Now she’s producing a film based on the Tony-nominated Broadway play “John Proctor is the Villain,” writes Bedatri D. Choudhury for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Fey and Marc Platt will produce the film adaptation of the play that was inspired by Arthur Miller’sThe Crucible.”

Platt has produced “La La Land,” “Snow White,” and Broadway adaptations like “Wicked” and “Dear Evan Hansen.”

“John Proctor” takes place in 2018 rural Georgia. It’s the story of a group of 11th-grade girls reading “The Crucible” who decide to start a feminism club during the time of the growing #MeToo movement as they work through their relationships with men. 

An English teacher who is the club’s advisor is later revealed to be a sexual abuser.

Fey has spoken out against men accused of sexual abuse, including Bill Cosby, Harvey Weinstein, and Fox News hosts Bill O’Reilly.

The play debuted at Washington, D.C.’s Studio Theatre in 2022. It premiered on Broadway last April and ends its run in August.

There’s no information yet on who is in the cast or when the film will be released.
