Old City Bar Affiliated with Popular Local TV Sitcom Closing After 15 Years

Old City bar Mac's Tavern, co-owned by "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" actors Robert McElhenney and Kaitlin Olson, announced that it's closing after 15 years.

Mac’s Tavern, the Old City bar and restaurant co-owned by two stars of the long-running TV show It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, will soon be closing, writes Michael Tanenbaum for PhillyVoice.

Robert McElhenney and Kaitlin Olson opened the bar in 2010.

“When we opened this bar, our hope was to create a welcoming, down-to-earth place where people could gather, share stories, laugh a little too loudly and enjoy a drink or two among friends,” the bar said in an Instagram post. “What we got was so much more: a vibrant, loyal and loving community that made Mac’s Tavern feel like home — not just to us and the staff, but to everyone who walked through its doors.”

No reason for its closure has been given as of this writing.

Over the years, Mac’s Tavern had become a popular tourism spot because of its connection to It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and the power couple who co-owned it.

More recently, Mac’s became a hotspot for soccer fans to watch Wrexham AFC, the Welsh soccer team that McElhenney co-owns alongside Ryan Reynolds.
