Ardmore is brimming with hip restaurants, bars, and small businesses, and transforming this bustling Montgomery County town into the Fishtown of the suburbs, writes Jenn Ladd for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Ardmore and Fishtown share undeniable similarities that make the comparison fitting. Both are home to several of the same out-of-town retailers, including Shake Shack, Sweetgreen, and Warby Parker. Soon, Van Leeuwen Ice Cream and Wonder will join that list.
The two places also boast similar small businesses. Both feature Italian specialty markets, gastropubs and whiskey bars, Italian steakhouses, lively music venues, quirky boutiques, play spaces for kids, and upscale soft-serve ice cream spots.
Additionally, several local booze makers have opened locations in both Ardmore and Fishtown, including Manatawny Still Works and Tired Hands.
Meanwhile the residential real estate market in Ardmore is red-hot.
“You have this mix of hipsters and people that want to move into Ardmore to have the walkability to public transit, to shopping, dining, schools, parks, you name it,” said Main Line Realtor Erica Deuschle.
“Ardmore has more variety” compared to the rest of the Main Line, she added. “It’s a diverse vibe … and I think that’s what people love about it.”
