Grace Tavern, the Grays Ferry restaurant and bar that was shuttered back in January after 20 years, is set to reopen under new ownership, writes Emma Dooling for the Philadelphia Business Journal.
The Tavern Group, which includes owner and founder Stephen Carlino and three partners, will be taking over the space’s liquor license.
There is no set date as to when the reopening will occur, but the new owners said they plan to maintain the Grace Tavern name. They also noted that the reopening will depend on when the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board approves the liquor license transfer. Carlino, however, hopes to have it open by May 1.
The Grays Ferry tavern is known for serving Southern-inspired new American fare.
Carlino noted that he began talking to Grace Tavern co-owner Fergie Carey about taking over the space months ago.
As the owner of several other establishments, he is always looking for new expansion opportunities throughout the city.
“We’re very committed to Philadelphia and wanting to stay in the heart of the city as much as we can,” Carlino said.
As of this writing, the exact menu remains in development as the new partners also work to make minor changes to the existing space.
