Solebury Township has acquired the former New Hope Crushed Stone & Lime Co. quarry for $1.6 million, writes Jeff Werner for the Patch.
The purchase of the 166-acre site secures one of the township’s largest undeveloped tracts. It features a 60-acre lake and more than 3,000 feet of stream corridor along Primrose Creek.
The property was originally appraised at $3.66 million. The township eventually reduced the price through a revised agreement of sale to $3.25 million.
The township also formed a strategic partnership with Solebury School. They negotiated a non-exclusive easement agreement that gives the school access to the site’s trails and water features for educational and recreational use.
In return, the school contributed toward the acquisition, which lowered the net cost for the township to $1.6 million.
The easement agreement was approved unanimously by the township supervisors during a special meeting last week.
“This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity,” said Solebury School Board Chair Mark Baum Baicker. “Through creativity, persistence, and collaboration, we were able to reduce the financial impact on taxpayers while preserving an extraordinary environmental and community asset.”
