Paoli’s Chubby Checker is set to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, writes Dan DeLuca for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
The 83-year-old singer is known for his 1960 hit single “The Twist.” Checker first performed the song in Wildwood, New Jersey and later recorded the track for Philadelphia’s Parkway Records.
Though he was only nominated for induction for the first time this year, Checker has advocated for his own induction in the Hall of Fame for decades, stating, “I want my flowers while I’m alive. I can’t smell them when I’m dead.”
Several other artists and performers from the Philadelphia region were announced as upcoming inductees. The induction ceremony is set to take place on Nov. 8.
Additional 2025 inductees include rap duo OutKast, The White Stripes, and Cyndi Lauper, whose iconic track “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” was written by Philadelphia songwriter Robert Hazard.
Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Museum president Greg Harris, a native of Bucks County, shared that Checker’s inclusion in the Hall of Fame is a long overdue recognition, and that his music “has impacted generations of artists and fans worldwide.”
