Nike’s Jordan Brand World of Flight Store One Step Closer to Opening Planned Center City Store

Nike first announced plans to open a new Jordan Brand World of Flight store last year, and a major hurdle has been cleared to make it happen.

A major hurdle has been cleared in regards to Nike’s plan of opening a new World of Flight store in Center City, writes Michael Tanenbaum for PhillyVoice.

The city recently approved the changes the company had proposed to make to the Walnut Street storefront in which the business will operate.

The planned Philadelphia store would be the first Jordan Brand shop outpost in the United States.

Nike submitted a proposal to the Philadelphia Historical Commission to make changes to the building last year. Specifically, the changes included replacing a historic French door on the second floor of the building. In its place would be a window featuring an illuminated sign of the iconic Michael Jordan Jumpman logo inside the store.

After initially getting rejected by the city, Nike revised its proposal to instead have a non-illuminated Jumpman logo on a pediment above the three French doors. Another logo will be located on the wall just above the store’s main entrance. Lastly, an illuminated sign will be installed inside the entrance.

There is no timeline as to when the store will open, but updates are expected.

The World of Flight store is the top Jordan Brand retail concept.
