Media’s Tyler Arboretum is a Perfect Spot to Visit This Spring

Lucille’s Garden is one of the programs visitors can check out during their visit to Tyler Arboretum.

With nearly 70,000 annual visitors, Tyler Arboretum is a beautiful spot to visit during the spring. It features 650 acres of land and a stunning collection of shrubs, herbaceous plants, and trees, writes Ben Silver for Main Line Today.

During the early months of spring, visitors can spot crocuses, dogwoods, daffodils, magnolias, hellebores, crabapples, and lilacs. As the season progresses, more flowers, like hydrangeas, azaleas, rhododendrons, viburnums, and bottlebrush buckeye, will begin to bloom.

The arboretum hosts a series of programs that visitors can check out. The first is the Family Explorer series, which takes place from 10 AM to 11:30 AM on Saturdays. Guests can take a guided tour and learn about the varieties of plant life on the grounds.

There’s also Lucille’s Garden, a thriving vegetable garden that donates its produce to the community. Another spot, the Pollinator Preserve, features bees, butterflies, hummingbirds, and moths.

The American Rhododendron Society partnered with the arboretum to develop a new program called the Hybridizer Test Garden, which is coming this fall.

Though there are traditionally 17 miles of hiking trails open to visitors, only 11.5 are currently open. Due to an invasive species of beetles, the Emerald Ash Borer, the other 5.5 miles have been closed to repair damage.
