West Whiteland officials, staffers, and residents showed up on Monday for the ribbon cutting of the new Township Public Works Facility, writes Bill Rettew for The Daily Local News.
According to Board of Supervisors Chair Rajesh Kumbhardare, the 39,000-square-foot project was completed within a year, on schedule, and at a cost of $14.6 million, which was well within budget.
The building will provide the residents with high-quality, cost-effective local government services while prioritizing economic development and sustainability.
The new facility brings the services offered by the township’s three existing outdated buildings into a single location, which should increase efficiency, collaboration, and shared equipment usage. The majority of the facility is storage space for large vehicles and equipment, along with offices and some meeting space.
“This facility was designed with keeping sustainability in the forefront – a passion of mine,” said Kumbhardare. “It is an all-electric building with a soon to be built solar array, which will supply the electric for this building.”
Due to the proximity of the township building, “it will also be a source of energy for that building as well,” he added.
