ChristianaCare Considering Second Micro Hospital in Springfield

ChristianaCare will have a stronger presence in Delaware County with two micro-hospitals and the recent takeover of some former Crozer health faciliites.

ChristianaCare, the nonprofit healthcare system from Delaware, is approaching the Springfield Planning Commission on March 6 with preliminary/final land development plans for a Springfield micro-hospital at 351 N. State Street.

The healthcare system already has a micro-hospital in the works in Aston Township, writes Pete Bannan for the Daily Times.

ChristianaCare officials have not confirmed the State Street location for a micro-hospital but did say they are actively exploring site locations for a second neighborhood hospital in Delaware County.

“Springfield is among the locations we are considering. However, we have not finalized the location. We will provide more information once the second site has been selected and finalized,” a ChristianaCare spokesperson said.

The considered Springfield wooded site covers more than 40 acres and runs on the south side of Route 1 from Rolling Green Apartments to Broadview Road

A conditional use at that location was approved 2018 for Estates at Coventry Woods.

Nearby residents were shown site plans in October 2024 by National Realty Corp., showing a micro-hospital with a retirement home behind it and more than 100 townhomes.
