Plans to create a 10-bed micro-hospital at Springfield Hospital have been put on hold because of the potential sale of Crozer Health to CHA Partners, writes John George for Philadelphia Business Journal.
Crozer is also halting plans to reactivate the emergency department at the Springfield campus that was closed in 2022 and to bring back radiology services and outpatient imaging.
The Springfield campus is still open for outpatient physical therapy, maternal fetal medicine, and home health and hospice care. There are also physician offices at the campus.
In March, Crozer Health CEO Tony Esposito said there was a plan to turn the 38-bed Springfield Hospital into a 10-bed inpatient micro hospital with a fully staffed emergency department.
Prospect Medical Holdings, the California parent company of Crozer Health, has a letter of intent to sell Crozer to CHA, a Bloomfield, New Jersey-based real estate investment company that specializes in revitalizing health care properties in distress.
The acquisition involves converting Crozer Health’s four hospitals to nonprofit status.
CHA previously bought three shuttered hospitals in North Jersey and another in New York, then converted them for non-inpatient hospital uses, such as outpatient and long-term care.
