Crozer Hospitals Put Up for Sale as Springfield OKs Microhospital

The land development plan for a ChristianaCare micro-hospital in Springfield. The dark center is the planned hospital project. The green was previously approved by the township and the yellow is not under consideration at this time.

As displaced Crozer Health patients overwhelm emergency rooms at Delaware County’s two remaining hospitals, four other closed hospitals in Delaware County, and their contents, are being sold.

Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Upland, Delaware County Memorial Hospital in Drexel Hill, Taylor Hospital in Ridley Park, and Springfield Hospital in Springfield are all up for sale. A real estate broker, Keen-Summit Capital Partners LLC, has been hired to handle the transaction, writes Kathleen E. Carey for the Daily Times.

At the same time, Centurion Service Group was hired to auction off the contents of Crozer-Chester, Taylor, and Springfield Hospitals at an online auction scheduled June 17 and again July 1 and 2.

Items included in the sale range from desks and chairs to stretchers, MRI and CT scanners, and a full industrial kitchen.

Crozer Health owner Prospect Medical Holdings filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy Jan. 12.

Springfield Hospital and Delaware County Memorial Hospital closed in 2022. Taylor Hospital closed April 25 and Crozer-Chester Medical Center closed May 2.

In related healthcare news, Springfield Commissioners approved a planned micro-hospital Wednesday evening from ChristianaCare at 351 N. State Road, covering a portion of a 44.8-acre property known as Coventry Woods.

The land development approval includes a deal between a lawyer representing 20 residents and ChristinaCare lawyers addressing 36 items.

The new hospital is the biggest land development in Springfield in the past 40 years, according to Springfield Board of Commissioners President Jeff Rudolph.

The hospital will handle about 30 to 40 patients at a time, with two to four of them arriving daily by ambulance.

A tentative opening is set for 2026.

The facility will have diagnostic services such as ultrasound, CT scans, X-rays and lab tests, and will have access to virtual consults for specialized support in neurology and cardiology.

A second-floor health center will provide outpatient services.

Hospital officials expect to bring in primary and specialty care practices along with other clinical services.

A separate two-story building will be constructed to handle outpatient surgeries and related services.

Included in the plan, but separate from the ChristianaCare facility, are medical townhouses designed to resemble townhomes but which will serve as doctors’ offices.

Work is ongoing for a second ChristianaCare micro-hospital in Aston.

ChristianaCare also recently took over operations at five former Crozer Health outpatient locations.
