The Israeli Film Festival of Philadelphia will run from March 20 to March 30, helmed by its new executive director, Gladwyne’s Karnit Biran, writes Melissa Jacobs for the Main Line Tonight.
Biran volunteered for the festival for a decade before taking on her new role last year. She is a native Israeli and Tel Aviv University graduate.
After last year’s controversy involving the Bryn Mawr Film Institute, this year, the festival will screen two movies at Narberth Theater instead. Other screenings will be hosted by Gratz College and Weitzman National Museum of American Jewish History in Center City.
“We are very excited about the lineup of our films this year,” said Biran. “We are adding younger members of our community to our new leadership team. They have many exciting ideas incorporating technology, social media, and in-person events.”
In addition to its main event at the end of March, Biran plans to run the festival’s program throughout the entire year.
“Our mission is to bring the best of Israeli cinema and culture to our community, while collaborating with our local Jewish community and organizations,” she said.
