Radnor’s Treasure: The Sports Legends of Delaware County Museum

Curator Jim Vankoski at the Sports Legends of Delaware County “Scenic Overlook”.

It’s hard to find, but it’s well worth a visit. The Sports Legends of Delaware County Museum is in Radnor, but it’s not on any map apps, it doesn’t have its own building, and the website is run by older men who don’t care for technology, writes Ben Silver for Main Line Today.

Curators Jim Vankoski and Rich Pagano have devoted their lives to celebrate Delaware County’s athletes and if you can set it up, they will give you weekend and select weekday guided tours.

Otherwise, the museum is open for self-tours Monday through Friday.

Welcoming you to the museum is a bronze statue outside the Municipal Building of NFL Hall of Famer Bryn Mawr native safety Emlen Tunnell, considered one of the greatest defensive backs in league history.

Inside is a collection of memorabilia that includes the jersey worn during game seven of the 2002 World Series by Upper Darby’s Mike Scioscia, an MLB catcher and manager,

There’s the first base from the final game at Connie Mack Stadium in 1970, the swimsuits worn by two-time Olympic Gold Medalist Jane Barkman, and much, much more.

Read about how this museum came to be and how it’s moved around a bit over the years in Main Line Today.
