A pet oxygen mask helped first responders save the life of a pitbull struggling to breathe during an early morning house fire in Bristol Township, writes Chris Ullery for the Bucks County Courier Times.
According to Bristol Township Fire Marshal Kevin Dippolito, firefighters from Bristol Township Fire Rescue and Third District Fire Co. rescued three pitbulls from a fire at the 4900 block of Beaver Dam Road around 7 a.m. One of the dogs was unconscious, so a firefighter provided oxygen until it regained consciousness.
This was made possible by Middletown teen Emily Rilling, who, in 2018, used her 12th birthday money and social media crowdfunding to donate oxygen masks for emergency responders across Bucks County.
Rilling was able to raise over $3,400 at the time, which was enough to purchase dozens of small, medium, and large masks for dogs from a Missouri-based Yucko’s.
There were no other injuries in Thursday’s fire, said Dippolito. The fire is believed to have originated near an outlet on the house’s main floor.
