Wawa Closes Drive-Thru Lehigh Store After Less Than a Year

Wawa has closed a new concept drive-thru store in Lower Macungie, Lehigh County.

Open less than a year, a new concept drive-thru Wawa at 6216 Hamilton Blvd. in Lower Macungie has closed, writes Ryan Kneller for WFMZ.

The Lehigh Valley drive-thru closed Jan. 5.

No reason for the closure was given. A Wawa spokesperson did not immediately return a message seeking more information.

Wawa opened its first Lehigh Valley drive-thru location on Feb. 8, 2024.

The 2,200-square-foot store had Wawa’s trademarked canopy, and promised “fresh food in a drive thru experience,” according to a release that announced the opening.

The store was open from 5 AM to midnight daily, able to “quickly serve 12 cars at a time for breakfast, lunch and dinner,” according to the release.

It had a built-to-order, fresh food kitchen providing many of Wawa’s traditional offerings, including hoagies, coffee, the Sizzli, burgers, specialty beverages and baked goods.

About 25 people worked there.

“Wawa is committed to increasing convenience and testing new formats and designs to continue to evolve to meet customer’s needs,” said Dave Simonetti, senior director of store operations, in the 2024 release announcing the drive-thru location’s opening.

In late fall, Wawa also closed a drive-thru location in Falls Township, Bucks County, according to a Patch article.
