This Delaware County Community Is an Attractive Option for Retirees
Swarthmore Borough has already made lists naming it one of the best places to live and to raise a family. Now Travel + Leisure says retiring in Swarthmore is a good choice if you want to retire in Pennsylvania.
Swarthmore shared the limelight with other Pennsylvania locales like Pittsburgh, West Chester, Harrisburg, Lancaster, Philadelphia, Scranton, Allentown, Camp Hill and Stroudsburg.
It appeared ninth on the list of 10, writes Katie Seemann for Travel + Leisure.
“Swarthmore is a small town that embraces both its younger and older residents,” the article states.
Home to Swarthmore College, it’s also part of AARP’s Age-Friendly Network.
The Swarthmore Senior Citizens Association provides resources, social interaction, travel opportunities, physical fitness and education to its members.
Plus, Swarthmore’s 30-minute proximity to Philadelphia gives residents a small-town atmosphere but access to the perks that come with living in or near a big city.
The average home in the borough is valued at about $435,000, which is higher than the national average, but well worth it to the retiree looking for a “thriving community with easy access to Philadelphia.”
