For Holiday Travel, Here’s the Least, Most Delayed Airlines at PHL
A Philadelphia Inquirer analysis took a look at most reliable PHL airlines, as well as the least reliable Philadelphia International Airport for delays, based on data from the tracking platform FlightAware.
Not everyone’s arriving at the same time, writes Henry Savage and Joe Yeradi for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
PHL is one of the nation’s and world’s most reliable airport, with just two of 10 flights delayed and less than 2 percent cancelled since the start of 2022.
The most reliable airline at Philadelphia International Airport is Piedmont Airlines, a regional carrier for American Airlines.
In the last three years, only 13.2 percent of Piedmont flights were delayed and 1 percent cancelled. That’s mostly due to the fact that Piedmont is a hub airline at the airport.
The airline maintains a PHL maintenance base and crew so they can control “the resources and coordination to keep these flights on time,” said Glenda Rivera, Piedmont’s senior director overseeing Philadelphia operations.
The least reliable airline at PHL is Frontier Airlines, based in Denver.
The ultra low-cost airline had nearly one in three flights at PHL delayed by 15 minutes or more in the last three years, and 2 percent of flights were cancelled.
