County Council is looking at a proposed $397 million 2025 Delaware County budget and it’s trying to figure out how to pass it without a 23 percent tax increase, writes Greg Payne for Fox 29.
“I think, if like minds come together, we can work together, we can get through this crisis and I hope to be able to do it without a 23 percent increase,” said County Council Vice Chairman Richard Womack at a recent county council meeting.
Council votes on a final budget Dec. 11.
The estimated tax increase did not sit well with residents. Some on council pointed to the several years that have gone by without a tax increase.
“We went through a period prior to this board where 12 years went by without a tax increase. You notice from that chart no other county has ever done that in this region,” said Councilmember Elaine Schaefer.
Aqua Pennsylvania has offered to ease the tax burden by purchasing the municipality-run wastewater group DELCORA.
Marc Lucca, president of Aqua Pennsylvania, said the sale would generate $125 million in proceeds that would ultimately go to the county and could offset tax increases.
