Bob Virga of Delaware County stored away his “Randall Bar”” for 30 years until he could get his idol, Eagles quarterback Randall Cunningham, to sign it., writes Dave Uram for KYW Newsradio.
“It’s a legacy of our refrigerator,” said Barbara, Virga’s beloved wife of 51 years.
The “Randall Bar” in question has Cunningham’s picture on the wrapper, Virga’s favorite player.
He picked up the bar sometime in the late 1980s.
Virga is upbeat for the Eagles and devoted, despite health issues of his own.
“[Sunday is] an untouchable day,” said Virga, “because I’m watching the Eagles … It’s an escape from your problems.”
He earned the nickname Eagle Bob after suffering a seizure on Dec. 3, 2000, in which he didn’t remember himself, his wife, or his son, Marc, but knew he had to get to the Vet for a game.
Now, nearly 20 years, later, Virga is coping with Stage 4 prostate cancer, forcing him to give up his season tickets to his family.
He’s replaced game visits with an impressive Eagle fan cave. Through it all, he remains positive for his team and in his battle against cancer.
