Delaware County cheesesteaks have a local touch that makes them standout from their Philadelphia counterparts, writes Ben Silver for Main Line Today.

Delco Steaks in Broomall focuses entirely on making cheesesteaks, with a distinct bread coated in sesame seeds

Dairy Cottage in Springfield serves a huge steak for a good price. The meat is finely chopped, topped with large chunks of white onions.

Joe’s Pizza in Broomall has a smaller, but quaint, cheesesteak created in a warm family-run store that’s been around for 40 years.

Drexel Hill Style Pizza in Broomall has been around for 57 years and understands the importance of fresh rolls (from Conshohocken Italian Bakery) for a good cheesesteak.

That’s combined with well-seasoned meat in medium-sized chunks, onions in every bite and a lighter cheese.

Jim’s Steaks in Springfield has cheesesteaks similar to ones downtown, but the onions are browned to perfection, complementing the ribeye served on a classic Amoroso’s roll.

The Original Thunderbird Steakhouse in Broomall is a Best of the Main Line and Western Suburbs winner in 2023. It’s been serving steaks for nearly 70 years. It features sandwiches where the gooey cheese melts over well-seasoned ribeye.
