Step Through the Swamp Door: A Curated Antique Experience

The Swamp Door is a Gilbertsville co-op specializing in vintage antiques, collectibles, and art.

For lovers of antiques and collectibles, The Swamp Door in Gilbertsville has something for everyone, reports Tamala Edwards for 6ABC.

The Swamp Door is a co-op that started in 2015. It opened with 49 vendors and has grown to over 70 businesses covering 7,000 square feet.

“We have antiques, vintage gifts, décor, collectibles, curiosities and more,” says owner Lisa Cellini.

Shoppers can find anything from vintage aprons and antique furniture to jewelry and books.

The Swamp Door is home to a lot of handcrafted art as well. Doreen Mayconich’s business, DKMDesigns, for example, sells hand-painted wine glasses, salt and pepper shakers, butter dishes and more.

The open showroom encourages shoppers to take their time and enjoy the visit whether they buy anything or not.

The vendors work together, helping customers at each other’s businesses.

“When you shop here, it’s a true small business experience,” says Cellini. “You’re actually supporting local people.”

The Swamp Door’s vision is to be “a nice place to shop for nice people.”

The name comes from a local legend about a special passageway that led early Pennsylvania Dutch settlers to the Gilbertsville area.

The Swamp Door is open Wednesday through Sunday, 10 AM to 5 PM.
