Springfield High School Honored With National Blue Ribbon Designation

Springfield High School has been named a National Blue Ribbon School in 2024.

Springfield High School has been named a National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education, writes Pete Bannan for the Daily Times.

It is one of only 13 schools in Pennsylvania and among 356 schools nationwide to receive the designation.

Blue Ribbon Schools either demonstrate excellent academic performance or demonstrate they’ve made significant strides in closing achievement gaps between different student groups.

The Department of Education looks at a school’s culture, programs, assessments, instructional practices, professional development, leadership, family, and community involvement.

“We are so proud of our staff and students for this incredible honor,” officials said on the district website. “What makes this recognition so prestigious is that schools do not apply for the award. They are selected by their states as exemplary educational institutions.”

Springfield School District officials highlighted the many programs that help students learn and succeed, including the Science Olympiad, Future Business Leaders of America, and Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science Teams.

Also, the 165 members of the school’s Community Service Club have logged over 7,000 hours of community service.

The award will be presented to the school in early November.
