Three Delaware County schools are among the winners of the prestigious National Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence designation awarded by the U.S. Department of Education, writes Kristen A. Graham for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Loomis Elementary in Broomall, Mother of Providence Regional Catholic School in Wallingford, and St. Katharine of Siena Catholic School in Wayne are three of the six Philadelphia area schools to be honored this year. They are three of just 367 schools – or less than one percent – from around the country to receive this designation.

The winners were announced last week by Education Secretary Betsy DeVos.

Andrew McLaughlin, the Archdiocese of Philadelphia’s secretary for elementary education, said that the recognition earned by Mother of Providence Regional Catholic School and St. Katharine of Siena Catholic School is especially meaningful considering that it was achieved against a backdrop of the coronavirus pandemic.

“The fact that each of these schools has been recognized for academic excellence, during an extraordinarily challenging time in our world, speaks volumes to the dedication of all those working within our Catholic schools each and every day to maintain high educational standards despite societal obstacles,” said McLaughlin.
