A customer survey continues to give Philadelphia Airport low grades but it's hoped that infrastructure investments will turn those opinions around.

The Philadelphia Department of Aviation needs to finish up $540 million in capital projects for Philadelphia International Airport and Northeast Philadelphia Airport.

It has until the summer of 2026. That’s when everybody gets here, writes Emma Dooling for Philadelphia Business Journal.

Greater Philadelphia is hosting six matches for the FIFA World Cup, the MLB All-Star Game, and celebrations of the nation’s 250th anniversary.

It’s expected that hundreds of thousands of visitors will descend on the region, with the World Cup matches alone projected to bring in about 450,000 people.

Philadelphia International Airport will get $166 million for landside improvements, $233 million for terminal upgrades, and $143 million for taxiway renovations.

Investments will cover restroom renovations, updates to building facades and terminal interiors, platform rehabilitation of SEPTA’s Airport Regional Rail Line, and upgraded information displays.

Investments are also being made in guest services.

“We’re doing everything we can to improve the infrastructure, but at the same time, it’s the human factor that is really going to be the most important thing in 2026,” said PHL CEO Atif Saeed said.

The airport is also hoping airlines can add routes for expected influx of guests.
