Delaware County Historical Society Celebrates New Home, Birthday

Delaware County Historical Society's new home at 9 W. Front Street in Media Borough.

The Delaware County Historical Society has sold its home in Chester and moved to a new location at 9 W. Front Street in Media Borough, writes Kathleen E. Carey for the Daily Times.

It’s also celebrating its 129th birthday with an open house and evening gala Sept. 26 at the new location.

The move to two buildings in Media took place In July.

The Chester building at 408 Avenue of the States was sold in August 2022 for $200,000.

“The purpose of selling the building was we realized that the building we were currently in was way too big for our needs. It was falling apart, and we had absolutely no financial capacity to do anything to fix it,” said Paul Hewes, the society’s acting director.

A move to a smaller, more central location with less costs was the best option.

An open house for the public to see the new building takes place Thursday, 10 AM to 3 PM.

At 6:30 PM, the historical society is hosting a ticketed gala at Media Borough Hall, 301 N. Jackson St. Tickets are $30 each and are available on the Society’s website.
