The 2024 Olympic Games will hold a special place in Kennett Square rower Justin Best’s heart for more than one reason, writes Dave Quinn for People.
26-year-old Best made history when he helped Team USA win the gold medal in the men’s four for the first time in 60 years.
Then he topped it off by proposing to his girlfriend of nine years, Lainey Duncan.
Best got down on one knee while still live on air and popped what he said was the easiest question of his life.
“I want to spend the rest of my life with you and raise a family together,” he said. “Lainey, will you marry me?”
Duncan’s response was a resounding “Yes.”
During the proposal, the couple was surrounded by members of Best’s family, who were holding 2,738 yellow roses to represent the days the two communicated through Snapchat during their relationship. In the background was the Eiffel Tower.
“I got the gold and the girl, and she got the diamond,” said Best.
“I am so happy I get to spend the rest of my life with this amazing human…” he added.
