Chester County’s cheesemaking culture is exceptional, bringing together both the agriculture industry and talented chefs, writes Maddy Sweitzer-Lammé and Chloé Pantazi-Wolber for Philadelphia Magazine.
The Farm at Doe Run in Coatesville is not only a cheesemaker, but an entire organic farm that includes cows and sheep raised for milk. Doe Run’s signature cheeses, Seven Sisters and St. Malachi have won World Cheese Awards. The former, which is a Gouda-style cheese with a nutty hint received accolades at the 2024 American Cheese Society awards.
Conebella Farm in Elverson is an award-winning dairy farm that has been in the Gable family for over 100 years. The Gable’s send their cow’s milk to a Lancaster County cheesemaker, who uses it to develop 14 delicious varieties of cheddar and colby cheeses, including jalapeno, garlic and chive, and more.
Talula’s Table in Kennett Square is a restaurant known for its excellent assortment of local and imported cheeses. The market sells a Cheese Geek Box, which is a selection of cheeses and other snack items. Custom cheeseboards are also available.
