On her recent trip to QVC in West Chester, Martha Stewart made a stop at another Chester County destination, as she wrote at The Martha Blog.
That opportunity came in the form of the stunning and exquisite Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square.
Its history began with the Lenni Lenape tribe, who utilized the land for fishing, hunting, farming, and gathering. Later, in 1700, George Peirce purchased the 400 acres. The Quaker farmer then began developing the property and, somewhere within his bloodline, his descendants created the arboretum.
After years of neglect, Pierre du Pont took over the property in 1906, creating what is now known as Longwood Gardens. The accomplished entrepreneur and philanthropist is responsible for the beautiful botanical displays, variety of plants, and perfectly manicured acreage.
Stewart had a full tour, capturing photos of Australian Tree Ferns, River Wattle, Acacia cognata, and Vanda orchids. She was able to stop into 1906 at Longwood Gardens, the upscale restaurant that is filled with delicious cuisine made from fresh, local ingredients.
Some of the dishes she tried include their Pull-Apart Brioche, which is adorned with garden seeds; the Hazelnut Profiterole, and the passionfruit and coconut panna cotta.
