Breast Cancer Awareness Activist Andy Sealy From Sharon Hill Remembered

Andy Sealy, an advocate for breast cancer awareness, talks about her own cancer diagnosis in a Penn Medicine cancer awareness video.

Sharon Hill native Andy Sealy, who was a breast cancer awareness advocate and who supported updated medical aid-in-dying laws, died Aug. 4. She was 44, writes Gary Miles for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Andrea B. Sealy graduated from Academy Park High School in 1998.

She studied human development and family studies at Pennsylvania State University, and organizational and strategic leadership at Neumann University.

Andy Sealy was diagnosed with stage IV metastatic breast cancer in 2017 and shared her experiences in treatment over the next seven years.

She encouraged women to perform breast exams and lobbied legislators in Pennsylvania and New Jersey for laws to permit compassionate medical aid-in-dying procedures.

She co-launched a podcast, Making the Breast of It, in 2019, wrote the blog “My Deafening Diagnosis,” and had a Just Ask page on Facebook.

Ms. Sealy promoted cancer awareness on national and local TV shows with her dogs Dink and Dash..

She was a spokesperson for Penn Medicine’s cancer care and the Colorado-based Compassion & Choices nonprofit.

“She was raw, a straight shooter, a real Delco girl,” said longtime friend Tara Amato. “She made friends everywhere and wanted to help everybody.”

Family and friends called her “a blessing,” “a guiding light” and “absolutely fearless.”
