Dilapidated Navy Housing in Ivyland Demolished, Planned to Transform to Public Park

Thanks to a $122,188 grant from the Greenways, Trails, and Recreation Program, several dilapidated homes were removed.  

The grant will also turn the property from the former Navy Warfare Center into a public park. It took several years to clean up the six-ranch style homes due to asbestos.  

The properties at one point were used to help the homeless. Similar to Shenandoah, the property will be used as a ‘passive park’.  

“As a Navy veteran, I am delighted to see the former Navy base get redeveloped into an environmentally friendly public space for all to enjoy for generations to come,” said State Rep. Brian Munroe
