Joe Gentile Has Put 70 Years of Work Into the Newtown Square Family Business

Joe Gentile was 7 when he started working at a small farm stand in Broomall owned by his father back in 1954.

“It was just a wooden structure my father built,” Gentile recalled.

That farm stand became known as Gentile’s Market and moved in 1970 to its current location in Newtown Square, writes Matteo Iadonisi for 6abc.

Joe Gentile moved with it, and now, 70 years, later, the 77-year-old produce manager, Army veteran and cancer survivor is still on the job with no plans to retire.

“I still work 70 hours a week and I love it, and I love it and I love it,” Joe Gentile said.

His father, mother, eight siblings, and Joe have all worked at the store at some time.

“I was in the Army around 24 years old. When I was on leave, I would come back to work,” he said.

These days, he’s joined at the store by his in-laws, and a next generation children.

“We work hard for what we have today,” he said. “I love the people that come in. I love the children that come in.”
