The Interboro Bucs girls’ softball team is traveling to the Babe Ruth League World Series in Alabama for the first time ever, writes Aziza Shuler for CBS News Philadelphia.
Not bad for a 10U district team that formed just two months ago.
The new team is on a historic championship run after winning the Babe Ruth Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship earlier this month.
They beat out competition in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and New York to qualify for the Series in Florence, Alabama.
“From two months getting together, we formed this team, we worked hard, gained some experience,” said Frank Urso, head coach of the Bucs.
This will be the first time in the history of the Interboro Softball League that one of their teams made it to the World Series.
Their formula for success?
“Dedication, hard work, and keep on going. Don’t stop. If you lose a game, don’t give up,” Urso said. “That doesn’t define us. We work hard.”
The girls are also boosted by a community of supporters who have raised $30,000 in two weeks to offset travel costs and fees.
