Another disheartening season for the Interboro High School boys basketball team may have concluded over the weekend, but it did so with a tremendous outpouring of heart by freshman manager-turned-player Colin Jones.

Jones’s dedication and passion in practice, while managing the Bucs, despite his Down syndrome, paid off against Sun Valley last Saturday.

Coach Billy Rowe had Jones suit up as No. 10, and he scored four points in a 66-56 loss, according to a Daily Times report by Matthew De George.

“He wakes up and he wants to go to basketball practice,” Jones’s father, Wayne, said. “He just loves basketball. And for Billy to help him realize his dream, it means a lot to us.”

Jones reveled in the thrill of scoring and the celebration with teammates.

“It felt awesome,” he said. “I had fun. It was like Steph Curry.”

The loss capped a second straight winless season for Interboro, but it felt anything but disheartening.

“We have a lot of support here, a lot of family support,” Rowe said. “Their family supported us all throughout the year, through a lot of struggles, and his mom and dad were great. I think he deserved every minute he got.”
